Della J. Emerich

Della J. Emerich, a longtime resident of Westfield, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at her retirement cottage in the Village of West Clay, Carmel Indiana.  She was born October 4, 1936 to Clarence and Icie Lee (Cosby) Standifer in Portales, New Mexico. Della married Sonny Emerich on November 8, 1954 and came to Westfield to live in 1957.

Della’s love of literature and children led her to work at the Westfield Public library, where, for years, she was the steward of the children’s department.  As her children came of age, Della pursued an interest in business and earned an accounting degree.

Empowered, Della delighted in employment at Boehringer Mannheim where her personal use of early spreadsheet software, Lotus 123 © astonished executives leading to a transition from paper to electronic bookkeeping.

In later years, Della and Sonny established Copperhead Corporation which built custom homes in Westfield.

Considerate and thoughtful, Della was an avid reader, adored pets and nature, and embraced her many grand and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Wright and Janet Emerich, a son, brothers, Jim and Craig Standifer, sister, Judy Allen, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sonny Emerich.

A graveside service for Della will be held on October 4th at 3 PM at Summit Lawn Cemetery in Westfield.

The Emerich family has entrusted Randall & Roberts Funeral Home with Della's care.
