Mr. William (Bill) Bruce, 75, of Indianapolis, passed away July 19, 2022. The son of the late Cmdr. Forrest Bruce (Ret.) and Margaret (Smith) Bruce both of Huckabee, TX, Mr. Bruce was born at Chelsea Naval Hospital in Chelsea, MA on October 2, 1946. He is survived by one daughter, Amy Hay, of Denver, CO; and one grandson, Grady Hay, of Noblesville, IN. Mr. Bruce is also survived by his sister, Twala Kruger of Charlotte, NC; as well as niece, Tonya (Chris) Benham and great niece, Lucia of Brooklyn, NY; and nephew, Benjamin Kruger of Atlanta, GA.
As a child of a naval officer, Mr. Bruce lived in various locations around the United States and overseas before returning to Seymour, TX, where he graduated high school in 1966. Mr. Bruce entered into the United States Navy in October 1966, serving on the U.S.S Thornback and the U.S.S. Harder during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged from active duty in August 1970.
Trained as an electronics technician, Mr. Bruce worked for the Department of the Navy in California from where he returned to Indiana in 1980. He worked for the Department of Geological Sciences at Indiana University in Bloomington, where he was easily recognizable riding around town on his Harley. After leaving Bloomington, Mr. Bruce worked for the Department of the Army, from which he retired in March 1998. After moving around the southwestern United States, he settled in Lake City, FL, where he lived for many years before returning to Indiana in 2016.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm, with services at 6:00 pm, on Friday, October 7, 2022 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Road, in Noblesville, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a veteran’s organization or animal rescue organization of your choice.
