Wesley Gregg Bucher

Wesley Gregg Bucher, 83, of Carmel, IN, arrived at the gates of heaven on August 9, 2025.

Wes was born July 8, 1942, in Valparaiso, Indiana, to Orville and Matilda Bucher, and was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Byron Geoffrey Bucher. He is survived by his loving wife, Leola Wehrman Bucher; his children, Chris Bucher (Jennifer Gleissner), Rachel Bucher Lima (the late Enrique Lima), Sarah Bucher Lillard (Matt Lillard), and Josh Bucher (Audrey Phillips); his brother, Cortland Bucher; and his grandchildren, Calvin Bucher (16), Wesley Lima (16), Linus Lillard (15), Lidia Lillard (14), and Margot Bucher (12). Wes found immense joy in his family, and loved seeing it grow through his life. He passed on surrounded by his children—always proud of who they were at every stage of their lives.

A 1960 graduate of Valparaiso High School, Wes attended Indiana University and served in the Indiana National Guard. He was active in civic and political life, serving as a precinct committeeman, Porter County Republican Chairman, 2nd District GOP Chairman, and as a member of the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Merchants Association, and the American Institute of Certified Planners. Wes owned Valparaiso Office Supply and The Emporium Cards and Gifts, and held leadership roles as secretary of the Indiana State Republican Party, Development Director for the City of Carmel, and Development Director for the Town of Fishers.

Wes’s life was guided by a deep commitment to public service and his faith, dedicating both his career and countless hours to helping others. Wes was a devoted member of King of Glory Lutheran Church in Carmel and a faithful servant in the Via de Cristo Christian ministry retreat, where he served for many years as the Lay Director for the Indiana Kentucky Via de Cristo community.

Throughout his years and all of these activities, Wes amassed hundreds, if not thousands of friends who were drawn to his kindness, good nature, and—above all else—his sense of humor. He loved making people laugh, even more than he loved IU Basketball and Peanut M&Ms.

His family looks forward to celebrating Wes’s life with laughter and cherished memories shared among friends on Saturday, August 16 at King of Glory Lutheran Church (2201 E. 106th St., Carmel, IN 46032). Visitation with the family will be held from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, followed by a service at 2:00 PM and a light meal at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to INKY Via de Cristo at https://inkyvdc.org/donate/ or to the National Kidney Foundation at support.kidney.org
