Vernon D. Mann, 86, died May 29, 2008 at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville. Vernon was born February 20, 1922 in Putnam County, IN to V.O. and Flossie (Branneman) Mann.
Vernon was a WWII Navy veteran. Prior to WWII, he was employed by International Truck Engine. After the war, he worked for Hoosier Fence Company (now called The Hoosier Company) for 42 years, where he was manager of their highway division. He received numerous awards and citations from the highway industry.
He was past-president of Indiana Highway Constructions (now Indiana Construction Association); was on the board, and awarded a life-membership of the American Road & Transportation Builders Association; was a 50-year member of the Noblesville Masonic Lodge #57, and the Indianapolis Scottish Rite; was an endowed member of the NRA; and belonged to Clarksville Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Lena; son, Rusten (& Cindy) Mann of Noblesville; daughter, Linda (& Gene) Hawkins of Springville, IN; step-daughter, Connie (& Reggie) Morgan of Arlington, TX; grandsons, Marten Mann, Matthew Mann, & Nicholas Mann; and great-grandson, Carter Mann.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by step-mother, Trixie Mann; brothers, Gurnie & Dennis Mann; and his first wife, Leah (Higgins) Mann.
Services will be on Monday, June 2 at 1:00PM at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home in Noblesville, with Pastor Steve Fair officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 1, from 1:00-4:00PM at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be held on Sunday at 4:00PM following visitation.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Clarksville Christian Church, or the Indiana Highway Construction Scholarship Fund.
