Susanne Kay (Van Marcke) Wegert, 86, of Tipton passed away in the early morning on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Harbour Manor Rehab. She was born on April 20, 1939, in Connersville, IN, the only child of Achiel and Nellie (Adams) Van Marcke.
Sue was a 1957 graduate of Connersville High School and graduated from Ball Statue University with an Education Degree in Biology and Physics. She taught Junior High Science in Laurel, IN. She stopped teaching to stay home when her youngest was born and eventually went back to school at Butler University to earn a degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology. While working at Jay County Hospital in Portland, IN, she added training for Ultrasound. In 1997, she quit working to care for her mother in Warsaw, IN until her passing in 2019. In 2021, she moved to Tipton, IN to be closer to family.
In her younger years, she was an active member of the local Methodist church where she lived, participating in choir and in women’s ministries. She faithfully enjoyed Sunday Services at Harbour Shores Church after being introduced to them in 2020 when physical church attendance was no longer option for her.
She enjoyed fishing and was constantly out at her parents’ cottage fishing for bluegill and perch whenever she could. Born with a green thumb, she was an avid gardener and always had plants growing year-round. If a plant was normally considered an annual, she would take care of it and keep it going for years by bringing them in during the winter and babying them until spring when she could take them back outside. Other hobbies included watercolor, drawing, writing, and quilting. Whenever she didn’t feel well, she would be sitting still working on whichever quilt was her latest project, even while she was in rehab. Not to be intimidated by technology, she was constantly taking online art, writing, and sewing courses and was a whiz at using the various apps for those classes.
Sue is survived by her children Eric Wegert and his wife Stacia of Kokomo, IN, Daniel Wegert of Louisville, KY, and Katherine Cochran and her husband Timothy of Noblesville, IN; grandchildren Tina (Ryan) Carmain, Nicholas Wegert, Daniel (Adela) Wegert, Zachary Cochran and Nichole Cochran; great grandchildren Landyn Wegert, Dominique Wegert, Abigail Carmain, Ezequiel Wegert, and Rojelio Wegert.
A service celebrating the life of Susanne Kay Wegert will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Rd, Noblesville, IN 46062 with Pastor Stephen Schultze officiating. Family and friends will gather from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, Tuesday at the funeral home.
