Listen to Obituary

Sue Ann Essig, 91, of Noblesville, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at her home. She was born on July 23, 1934 to Frank and Helen (Booth) Reed in Noblesville, Indiana.

Sue Ann was a lifelong resident of Noblesville and was very active in her community for many years. After high school she attended Ball State University where she received her degree in Elementary Education. She returned to Noblesville and began teaching first grade and continued teaching until she started her family in the early 1960’s.

While raising her two sons, she also worked at her husband’s family business, the Mitee Handy Hardware stores. She was instrumental in helping to open a secondary shop: The Corner Annex, where she spent a lot of hours working and managing operations. She held other several jobs over the years, including retail sales for Southwest Style and L.S. Ayers where she was the lead salesperson for the Liz Claiborne line and the Tommy Hilfiger line for many years. She was a member of Noblesville First United Methodist Church with her family and was actively involved in Tri Kappa for many years.

Sue Ann loved the beach and spent a lot of time in Florida with her family when they were younger and then later took trips with her friends to Florida and to the Holland, Michigan area where they would vacation and explore the shores and enjoy the local shops and restaurants. She never came back from the beach without bringing shells back that she discovered on her beach walks. She was an avid reader and loved planting and tending to her plants and flowers. She was blessed with a large group of ladies that played cards and had lunches together for many years.

She is survived by her sons, Tim and Jake (Jennifer) Essig; and grandchildren, Samuel, Emily, and Luke Essig.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Essig and her brother, Patrick Reed.
