Shirlee "TuTu" Sholtes

Shirlee Sholtes, affectionately known as “TuTu” Sholtes, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, June 5, 2025.

Born on April 10, 1938, in Throop, Pennsylvania, to James and Elizabeth Brown, Shirlee lived a vibrant and adventurous life. A passionate traveler, she explored cities around the world and collected memories that she loved to share with her family—especially her great-grandchildren, who often received small gifts from her journeys, ranging from jewelry to perfumes to her bedazzled jeweled hats

Tu Tu was well known around Fishers, Indiana, for her kind tradition of handing out $2 bills to those who helped her—whether bagging her groceries, painting her nails, or assisting her at a local restaurant. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life: spending time at Morse Beach Park, tending to the bright flowers in her garden, getting her hair and nails done at the local beauty college or simply folding laundry.

During her marriage to LTC Lawrence Sholtes of the United States Army, Shirlee lived in far-flung places including Bangkok, Thailand, and Honolulu, Hawaii. After her husband’s service, she returned to Throop to be near her mother until her passing in 1998. Soon after, Shirlee relocated to Fishers to be closer to her children.

She is survived by her son, Mark Sholtes of Fishers; her brother, James Brown of Archbald, PA; two grandchildren, Taylor Foytich and Malia Wood; five great-grandchildren, which she was so overly proud and in love with, and many beloved family members in Pennsylvania. Lifelong friends Marilyn and Bruce Bubenzer of 53 years, and Chris and Lou Floetker, held a special place in TuTu’s heart.

Shirlee was preceded in death by her daughter, Lynne Foytich, and her grandson, Nick Foytich.
