Robert Thomas Hafler, known affectionately as Bob, passed away on June 28, 2024, at the age of 91 in Holland, Michigan. Born on April 13, 1933, in Honesdale, Pennsylvania.
Bob's personal life was filled with joy and love. He was married to his beloved wife, Zula Mae, for 64 years, and together they raised seven children: LuAnn Benbow (Greg), Thomas Duane Hafler (Robin), Judith Stewart (Darrell), Carol Rock (Brian), Robert L. Hafler (Vicki), Peggy Bertrand, and David Hafler (Brandi). His legacy extends through a large family, including 21 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, who will remember him for his wisdom and warmth.
Bob's commitment to his country was evident through his service in the Army during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1953, where he served as a Heavy Weapons instructor. His experiences during his time in the service shaped much of his life, instilling a sense of patriotic pride.
Following his military service, Bob embarked on a career as a painter/ Interior decorator in Indianapolis, Indiana, Tool and Die at Kitterman’s Machine Shop, Noblesville, Indiana and later a Mold Maker at LS Mold in Holland, Michigan. His meticulous nature and expert craftsmanship were highly valued. Upon retirement, Bob channeled his passion for precision and strategy into coaching bowling, helping many to refine their skills and foster their love for the sport.
An avid outdoorsman, Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, and scuba diving, often sharing these passions with his family and friends.
He enjoyed his time at the Day Center of Evergreen, making friends and entertaining the staff with his warmth and humor.
Bob was a member of the online Noblesville Pilgrim Holiness Church, participating in services online and maintaining his faith throughout his life.
He is survived by his siblings, Clark Hafler and Lois Hafler, his 7 children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Duane Hafler and Genevieve Bellamy Hafler, brother Donald Hafler, granddaughter Rachel Benbow, and his beloved wife, Zula Mae Tyndall.
Bob Hafler's life was a testament to his commitment to his family, and service to both his country and community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024
