Rev. Cecil Timothy "Tim" Rust

Listen to Obituary

The Rev. Cecil Timothy "Tim" Rust passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 9, 2026, while in hospice care at Goshen General Hospital in Goshen, Indiana. Tim was born on October 12, 1942, in Dayton, Ohio, to Dr. Cecil F. and Martha Jane Rust.

He graduated from Fairview High School in Dayton, Ohio and completed his undergraduate degree at Manchester College (now Manchester University). On August 21, 1965, he married his college sweetheart and the love of his life, Janine K. Jordan.

The couple began their life together in Chicago, Illinois, where Tim earned his Master of Divinity from Bethany Theological Seminary. They later moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where he completed his Master of Social Work at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Throughout his career, Tim faithfully served both the church and his community as an ordained minister and licensed mental health professional.

A true jack of all trades, Tim pursued many interests with heartfelt enthusiasm. He enjoyed cooking, woodworking, clockmaking, amateur (HAM) radio, and gardening. He was an avid listener of classical music, played the flute and piccolo, and never passed up a good game of chess.

Tim is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Janine; his daughters, Aimée (Charles) Scheuermann, Ilena (Bryan) Hansel, and Lara (Jeffery) Palmer; his beloved grandchildren, Emma, Lilly, Claire, David, Benjamin, and Apollo; his sister, Rebecca (Richard) Flickinger; along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Jordan; and his brother-in-law, Richard C. "Dick" Jordan of LaGrange, IN.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis, IN. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., officiated by the Rev. Brian Shivers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Manchester University: https://www.manchester.edu/give/ , Goshen General Hospital: https://goshenhealth.com/about/foundation , or a charity of the donor's choice.
