Listen to Obituary

P. Roger Kumler, devoted husband of Peggy Kumler, went to his maker on February 25th, 2026 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on July 22nd, 1933 in Lancaster, Ohio to Dean and Doris (Poff) Kumler. He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1951. His education continued at Wabash College where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi and president of the fraternity during his Junior year. After graduating in 1955 with a major in economics and a minor in political science, he went on to the Northwestern University Graduate School of Business Administration where he earned an MBA in 1956 with a major in finance. After a short stint with Continental Illinois Bank in Chicago, he accepted a commission in the U.S. Army Finance Corps in July, 1957. Upon completion of basic training, he attended the Army Finance School at Fort Harrison and then was assigned to Fort Hood, Texas where he proudly served until discharged in July, 1960 as First Lieutenant.

He then began a 32-year career with the Indiana National Bank (INB) starting as a security analyst and ending as Senior Vice President and Senior Trust Investment Officer. In 1966 after three years of study, he earned the professional designation Chartered Financial Analyst, CFA. During his years at INB he was elected in the 1960’s to term of the Carmel Town Board and was a member of the Indianapolis Society of Financial Analysts serving as its President for a year. He was also a Board member of the Children Bureau of Indianapolis serving several years as Finance Chairman and a year as President.

When Indiana National Bank was sold in 1992, Roger took early retirement and started his own business, Kumler Investment Management. He continued to manage the assets of individuals for more than twenty years and fully retired in 2013 at the age of eighty.

The watchword for both his personal and professional life was Dependability. He believed this trait evolved from growing up in a small town full of post-World War II values and working summers on his grandfather’s farm. Also the education he received at Wabash changed the trajectory of his life and prepared him for a lifetime of inquiry, learning, and charity. His greatest joy was living on his mini-farm with family, ever-present dogs and raising cattle. A family tradition was vacationing at various Western Dude ranches in the summer and finding warm weather destinations in the winter. He was an avid fan of Indiana basketball and Ohio State football. He often chuckled that he might be the only Woody Hayes fan in the state of Indiana.

In 1977 he married the love of his life, Peggy. Together they brought two children to the marriage, Lisa and Jeff. There were now four grandchildren: Chandra (deceased), Mason, Lexi, Grace and a great grandson, Tristan who survive. He was preceded in death by his father (1945) and mother (1989).

Visitation and services will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at White River Christian Church, 1685 North 10th Street, Noblesville, IN. The time will be updated here when available.
