Nathaniel “Nate” J. Thomas, 34, of Noblesville, Indiana passed away on June 4, 2026.

He was born November 27, 1991 in Polk County Florida to Donald and Bethanne Thomas.

Nate was a Staff Sergeant with the U.S. Army, who died unexpectedly on Thursday while on active duty orders in North Carolina.

At the time, he was stationed at Fort Bragg, training in the Q course to become a Green Beret.

Thomas served as an infantryman in the Indiana National Guard while also serving as a firefighter and EMT for Indianapolis Fire Department.

He attended Gospel Grace church.

Some of his military accomplishments include, but are not limited to: Air Assault, Afghanistan Deployment, Ranger School, Mountains, Airborne, Africa Deployment, the French Desert Commando Course, and Selection.

Nate lived a life defined by unwavering service, dedicating himself fully to both his nation and his local community.

His dedication to the state and nation reflected the highest values of the military profession, and his loss is deeply felt across the ranks.

Simultaneously, Thomas served the citizens of Indianapolis as a Firefighter Private with the Indianapolis Fire Department. A member of IFD Recruit Class #86, he joined the department on February 22, 2021. Assigned to Engine 9 A Shift, Private Thomas was a trusted brother at the firehouse, dedicating his civilian life to protecting the community from emergencies and hazards.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Edith Koenighaus.

Nate leaves behind his wife, Morgan, and their five children: Rilynn, Donny, Maggie, Harper, and Wiley; parents Donald and Bethanne Thomas; sister Sarah Thomas and grandfather, Werner Koenighaus.

He will be remembered as a faithful husband, loving father, and a defender of American freedom.

Viewing will be held at East 91st Street Christian Church, 6049 East 91st Street, Indianapolis, IN 46250, Thursday, June 18th, 2026, from 1:00-3:00 p.m., followed by a service at 3:00 p.m.
