Morris O. "Moose" Stern

Morris O. "Moose" Stern, age 90, of Noblesville, passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023.  He was born on October 4, 1932 to Frank and Zora (Dunlap) Stern at home in rural Noblesville, Indiana.

Moose attended Durbin Elementary and Noblesville High School.  In high school, he excelled at football, basketball and track, and was a member of FFA.  Moose proudly served in the U.S. Army and was an Army Ranger and was U.S. Army Ranger School Instructor at Camp Rucker, AL during the Korean War.  A lifetime resident of Hamilton County, Moose was a farmer in Wayne Township and later in life worked for Hamilton County Highway Department.  He was a member of Refuge Christian Church.  Mr. Stern loved Hamilton County 4-H and served many years on the 4-H Council.  He also served on Hamilton County Soil & Water Conservation Board and Hamilton County Co-Op Board.  Moose enjoyed custom livestock hauling during his farming career and also camping and traveling with Elaine.  He was very devoted to family and was a quiet, hard-working and naturally protective guy.  Moose enjoyed a cup of strong black coffee, and could enjoy some any time of day.  He was well known for growing a nice corn crop, and finishing a group of "Well Fed Beef Steers".

Moose was married to Marca Elaine (Daubenspeck) Stern in 1957, and they had 3 children: Leanna VanVoorst (Bob), Amy Stern-Domek (Tom), and William Stern (Sandy).  He is also survived by grandchildren, Diane Olson (Todd), Sean Cody (Meghan), Kelsey VanVoorst (Kevin), Robert Dunkerly, Ross Dunkerly, Reed Dunkerly, and Connor Stumm (Hallie); great-grandchildren, Lacey Olson, Camry Olson, Owen Cody and Calvin Cody; as well as many nieces and nephews who adored Uncle Moose and time spent at the farm.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Frank Jr., Jim and Joe; and sister, Helen.
