Mireille Griepentrog

Mireille Alethia Griepentrog, age 3, was forever healed in the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.  Still on this earth are her parents, Rob and Ruth Griepentrog; siblings, Isaac Wesselman, Karissa Wesselman, Enoch Griepentrog, and Selah Grace Griepentrog; and grandparents, Linda Jackson, Larry Jackson, and Robert Griepentrog.  She was preceded to heaven by her grandmother, Doreen Griepentrog.

Mireille was born with an unidentified genetic syndrome, which affected almost every system and part of her body, literally from her head to her toes.  She endured countless medical procedures, long hospital stays, multiple surgeries and was seen by over a hundred doctors.  Yet despite all of this, Mireille was quite literally a walking miracle, defying the odds, and her joyful tenacity was a lesson in determination and God's goodness that touched many.  Many friends loved and prayed for Mireille before she was even born and the Griepentrog family saw God perform miracle after miracle in Mireille’s life.  To know Mireille was to love her, and to be deeply inspired in faith and perseverance.

Mireille learned to communicate via American Sign Language and knew over 250 words.  She could count to ten, identify colors and shapes, and recognized almost all the letters of the alphabet.  She was incredibly observant, and had an insatiable desire to learn, comprehend, and apply the things she observed that family members modeled.  Her incredible sense of humor came to life as she developed more communication skills.  The word “funny” was one of her first independently used signs during her initial language explosion. It was a word she signed countless times and in countless places. Once she could communicate that things were funny, she found humor and funniness in just about any person or situation.

God placed deep inside Mireille a strong determination to do things, and especially hard things.  If she saw her siblings do something, she wanted to try to do it too!  Despite having one leg and foot that had no movement below the knee, and toes that curled under, Mireille mastered walking and was often trying to run.  She loved to try to climb playground equipment and come down slides backwards.  She loved to go “fast” on swings and to jump in rain puddles.

Mireille loved video phone calls.  She developed incredible phone proficiencies and had name recognition of several people before the age of two.  She was doggedly determined, and she would often go through her mom or dad’s phone calling every name that she recognized until someone finally answered the phone and talked with her.

Mireille attended Wisdom Builders Preschool, and while she wasn’t often able to attend because of medical situations, she loved the times when she could go to school and always associated going to school with seeing her friends.

Mireille’s parents are members at Lifepointe Church, in Westfield, Indiana.  Mireille deeply loved music and her favorite time of the week was the musical portion of the worship service at church.  She will forever be remembered by the family of Lifepointe Church as a little girl who loved to give out high-fives and waves and fist-bumps, dance in the aisles, and raise her hands in praise.

While she is no longer on earth, the Griepentrog family is incredibly thankful for the precious time that they were given with her, and they rejoice that she is alive and with her Savior, Jesus Christ.  They look forward with eager anticipation to the day when they will be reunited with their sweet girl again.
