Mary D. Coombs

Mary D. Coombs, 96, of Fishers, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023.  She was born on January 6, 1927, to Ralph and Clara (Kursner) Dieterlen in Marysville, Indiana.

Mary graduated from New Washington High School in 1944.  She was employed at the U.S. Army Quartermaster Depot in Jeffersonville and by a commission firm at the Louisville stockyards.  She married Glen Coombs in 1948 and they resided in Henryville, Indiana until his death in 1993.

In 1994, Mary moved to Fishers.  She attended Fishers United Methodist Church where she took an active part in the United Methodist Women, Sunday School, the Worship Committee, Fifty Plus and Body Recall.  She was also a member of the quilting group.

Mary was active in the community, volunteering in textiles at Conner Prairie, and was a member of the Extension Homemakers. 

She is survived by her two daughters, Glenda Shepherd (Mardy) of Dallas, PA, and Jan McCrory (Jim) of Fishers; three grandchildren, Melanie Shepherd (Matt Rogers), Megan Weingart (Dan), and Kyle Shepherd (Alycia Valente); and six great-grandchildren, Brayden Weingart, Thomas Rogers, Charles Rogers, Brooklyn Weingart, Maxwell Shepherd and Hazel Shepherd.  Also surviving are her sister, Pauline Harris, brother, Maurice Dieterlen (Carol), and sister-in-law, Rose Dieterlen, all of Otisco, IN.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Coombs; sisters, Martha Dale Dieterlen and Louella Lee; and brothers, Leon Dieterlen and Oliver Dieterlen.

Local visitation and services will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Fishers United Methodist Church, 9691 East 116th Street in Fishers.  Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and funeral services at 12:00 pm.

Additional visitation and services will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023, at Henryville United Methodist Church, 113 S Ferguson Street in Henryville.  Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, and funeral services at 11:00 am.  Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Henryville, Indiana.
