Marcia K. Stumm, 90, of Noblesville, Indiana passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis from a stroke. She was born on August 11, 1935, to Gustive and Juanita (Williams) Kumpf in Brazil, Indiana. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Curtis “Skip” Stumm; two sons, Andrew (Elizabeth) Stumm and Tyler (Melanie) Stumm; sister, Rosemary (Roy) Cottom; four grandchildren, Sherri (Kevin) Essex, Andi-Marie Stumm and fiancé (Jeremy), Marshall Stumm, and Bentley Stumm; and four great-grandchildren, Camille Stumm, William Essex, Lulabelle Bennett, and Annalise Stumm, and many nieces, nephews, and great nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Jack Kumpf.
Marcia grew up in Brazil where she enjoyed living with her family as well as her maternal grandmother. She graduated from Brazil High School in 1954 and was a member of the National Honor Society. During high school she was very active in the theater and Rayvon Thespian Groups in Indiana, and as a senior she was chosen as Best Thespian.
Marcia attended Indiana University following high school and worked for her dad as a secretary. Once her Dad found a permanent secretary, she worked in the filing department at Blue Cross Blue Shield as a typist and was later promoted to becoming a secretary to the manager of the records department. While at Blue Cross Blue Shield, Marcia started a library for the employees which proved to be a great success.
Marcia by destiny met the love of her life, “Skipper”, when their cars were parked beside each other at the Northwood Drive-In. Originally, she was supposed to have met another boy from Kokomo but happened to be stood up. Skipper’s famous words to her were “nice looking crate you got there’” and her reply was, “thanks maybe I’ll take you for a ride sometime”. When Marcia met Skipper “It was love at first sight. I took one look at him and the thought went through my mind…I’m going to marry him someday”. She did in fact marry Skipper on Good Friday, April 19, 1957. She soon became a stay-at-home mom in July of 1960 where they rented their first home in Carmel for $55 a month.
During their long and prosperous marriage, Marcia and Skip started Stumm Construction and Rentals building, renting, and selling real estate, a full-time side job for Skip as he also worked full-time for the Ford Motor Company. Marcia also started an at home printing and mailing business called The Kopy Kats. In 1976 Marcia returned to work outside of the home as an insurance agent, retiring in 1999 to help her eldest granddaughter with her progressing role in Jobs Daughters, and to focus on her travels and family.
Aside from her family, one of her greatest passions was being a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Since joining on February 27, 1960, Marcia served in many positions, as well as serving as Worthy Matron 6 ½ times. She also joyfully served as Grand Page under Sister Helen Mitchell, and as Angel – No. 10 for Sister, Patsy Hargraves, and Brother, Harold Meyers. She further served as the Grand Representative Appointment of Rhode Island in Indiana and was the recorder for the Indiana Grand Chapter from 1992 to 2004. She also held several Grand Chapter Committee appointments. One of the biggest joys and highlights of her Eastern Star journey was being appointed Martha Star for Most Worthy Grand Matron, Sister Pat Rasmusson, Most Worthy Grand Patron, Brother Loyal Stark, of the General Grand Chapter from 2003-2006. Her Eastern Star brothers and sisters provided her with lifelong memories, connections, and friendships from all over the globe that she deeply cherished. Her time with the Order of the Eastern Star also gave her the opportunity to travel around and see the world. Traveling was one of her favorite pass times. Her devotion to Eastern Star’s values of charity, loyalty, and friendship were apparent to anyone she met. Her dedication and commitment to this organization was unmatched.
Marcia was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and true friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family, loving and serving others, cherishing the good in each and every day, and was a devout Christian. Marcia has been a member of Carmel United Methodist Church since 1954, which has made her one of the church’s longest standing members. During her time and involvement with the church, she was active in the church choir, played the handbells, and started the Cherub Choir. In her later years she enjoyed attending church with her friend, Barbara Smith.
Marcia always knew how to celebrate milestones, throw the best party, installation, reunion or event, and never missed the small details. She had a way of making sure others knew they were special and loved by sending a note or card. Marcia enjoyed sharing joy and good fortune with others, reading a good book or novel, solving a murder mystery, completing a jigsaw puzzle, and never traveled anywhere without her camera. She never forgot to get everyone together for a picture. Her presence always filled the room and will be greatly are sorely missed by all those who knew and loved her.
