Linda A. McCarty, 86, Noblesville, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2026 at Independence Village of Avon. She was born on August 1, 1939 to Chalmer and Berta (Guthrie) Hoover in Noblesville, Indiana.
A 1957 graduate of Noblesville High School, she was the valedictorian and active in 4-H. She went on to a career she loved as a lab technician for over 50 years at Riverview Hospital. She served Hamilton County’s 4-H program for over 50 years as a 4-H mother, 54 years as the leader of the Stringtown Pikers Club, board member, and mentor to countless area youth. She loved cooking, baking with her grandchildren, cake decorating, camping, and snowmobiling in Michigan. She took great joy in hosting huge outdoor gatherings, filled with food and fun for countless family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Branna McCarty Shores (Dennis) and Megan Tolen (Rick); brother, Chalmer “Bud” Hoover (Andrea); five grandchildren: Erin Peabody(Cory), Callie Smith, Allison Tolen, Adrianne Tolen, and Luke Tolen; plus great grandchildren: Gabby, Molly, Averie, Natalie, and Cal.
In addition to her parents, Linda was proceeded in death by her husband, John L. McCarty.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, May 1, 2026 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 16855 Westfield Road, Noblesville. Services will be held at 12 o’clock noon on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at the funeral home, with Nancy and David Chance officiating. Burial will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hamilton County 4-H Council, Inc., 2003 Pleasant Street, Noblesville, IN 46060 or to Tippecanoe County 4-H, 1950 S. 18th Street, Lafayette, IN 47905.
