Larry Francis Hurm, born October 21, 1955, in Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026. He spent his final days surrounded by the love of his family.
Larry was the devoted husband of Karen Hurm, and previously the husband of Cynthia Hurm (Wolfer). He was the supportive and proud father of Nicholas Hurm and Kelsey (Ryan) Pscheid, and the caring stepfather of Sarah and Eric (Meaghan) Needleman, and a doting Papaw to Arthur, who brought him immense joy.
Larry was the son of the late John and Edwina (Lambert) Hurm, and the beloved brother of Gerald (Rita), Linda, Bob, Joyce (Joe), and the late Mark.
A devoted Catholic, Larry spent much of his life volunteering for the church, where he formed lifelong friendships and lived out his faith through service. He was a longtime catechist, spending many Sunday mornings teaching children at Holy Spirit Catholic Parish on the Eastside of Indianapolis. Later, Larry became an active member of the Men's Club at Holy Spirit Parish at Geist, where he especially enjoyed volunteering at the Friday fish fry events every Lenten season. He was always ready with a warm smile, a steady presence, and a helping hand.
Larry's spirit of service extended well beyond the church. He devoted countless hours to supporting his children's activities. From marching band competitions to scouting events, fundraisers, weekend trips and sporting events. Whether he was chaperoning, hauling equipment, or simply cheering from the sidelines, Larry showed up fully with quiet reliability.
Larry was a longtime and dedicated commercial roofing sales representative with Beacon Roofing Supply, where he built lasting relationships through his integrity, hard work, and easygoing nature. He enjoyed the simple things in life, including playing dominoes and euchre with friends, attending outdoor concerts, visiting wineries, and taking casino trips and other adventures with his dear wife, Karen. These moments together brought him happiness, laughter, and stories he loved to share.
Larry was an incredibly kind, patient, and resilient man. A calm and steady presence, and a rock for the people he loved. He will be greatly missed.
In April 2025, Larry received the gift of life through a double lung transplant. In honor of Larry and his donor, the Hurm family encourages everyone to consider becoming an organ donor.
The family will share details regarding visitation and the remembrance Mass as they become available.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Larry's honor to The Indiana Donor Network or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
