John William Tierney, 78, of Westfield, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 26, 2023, in Westfield. He was born on August 27, 1944, to Charles and Dorothy (Haskett) Tierney in Noblesville, Indiana. His parents precede him in death.
John worked for Chrysler as a job setter for over 30 years and was a volunteer firefighter for the Westfield Fire Department for over 20 years. He loved carpentry and woodworking and had a talent for hand-crafting beautiful furniture as well as wooden models of vintage tractors and vehicles. He won first prize and a magazine mention for a model back-hoe he entered into a Rockler Woodworking competition. He also enjoyed building wooden pulling toys which he donated to patients at Riley and Peyton Manning Children's Hospitals. His second favorite pastime was porch sitting and visiting with family and neighbors who dropped by.
Sports were a huge passion for John, he loved coaching his son's little league team and being a "loud" supporter of all his kids’ and grandkids' events; especially enjoying baseball, softball, and football (he always had the Notre Dame game on). He loved animals and, over the years and many dogs, considered the family’s pets to be among his children. In his later years, he and a group of friends were regulars at Lincoln Square Pancake House.
John was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jacqueline (Johnson) Tierney, daughter, Holly (Jane), son, Scott (Mindy), daughter, Terri, grandchildren, Craig, Courtney, and Joe, sisters, Shirley Carey and Marilyn Menard, sister-in-law, Linda Rich, brother-in-law, Tom Johnson (Karen).
Services will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 7:00 PM at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Rd, Noblesville, IN. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 31, at 11:00 AM at Summit Lawn Cemetery in Westfield.
