Johnny (John) Gregory Owens
July 22, 1952 – April 27, 2025
John Gregory Owens, 72, of Noblesville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Riverview Hospital, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on July 22, 1952, in Harlan, KY, he was the son of George Oscar and Margie Pauline (Lundy) Owens.
John graduated from Noblesville High School in 1970, where he engaged in many clubs and activities including pep and marching band. After graduating, John went on to serve proudly in the United States Air Force. It was during that time he discovered a lifelong passion for technology and automated equipment. After earning technical degrees in automated equipment and machine building, he dedicated his career to the industry, retiring in 2015 from Service Engineering in Greenfield, where his contributions were both respected and valued.
John’s interests included anything technology based; ranging from metal detecting, star gazing with telescopes, and geocaching with his grandchildren, just to name a few. He was an avid gamer, gun enthusiast, and teacher. He always took the time to share his knowledge and educate others, no matter the subject. John was also known for his quick wit and humor bringing levity to any situation—as he would often say “Always go for the funny.”
A devoted husband, John, shared 51 wonderful years of marriage with Cathy Owens (Emmert). Together, they built a family filled with love and cherished memories. He is survived by his sons, Justin Owens and Jared Owens (Jessica, daughter in love) of Noblesville; and his treasured grandchildren, Grayson and Eleanor Owens, who brought immeasurable joy to his life and made him “Papaw.” He is also survived by his sister, Joyce Elaine Clark (Mike) and brother, Phillip Owens (Lori) of Maryville, TN. He will also be deeply missed by his loyal canine companion, Wrigley, who was his faithful retirement buddy.
John’s extended family, including nieces and nephews Angela Owens and family; Lori Klingler (Lee) and family; Mark Owens and family; Christa Griffith and family; Brian Griffith (Jackie) and family; Joshua Owens; Joseph Owens (Deanna) and family; Zach Clark (Ashley) and family; and Jordan Clark, held a special place in his heart.
John was preceded in death by his parents, George and Margie Owens; his brother, Richard Owens; and his sister, Carolyn Sue Griffith.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses on John’s care team at Riverview Hospital as well as Randall & Roberts Funeral Home for their care and compassion.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1150 Logan St., Noblesville, with a service officiated by Tim Garner to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to White River Christian Church Food Pantry, 1685 North 10th Street, Noblesville, IN 46060 (https://www.wrcc.org/give) or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html?sc_icid=header-btn-donate-now).
John's legacy of kindness, devotion, and integrity will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched.
