Listen to Obituary

John Franklin Braden, 92, Of Fishers, Indiana, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 22, 2026 at Ascension/St. Vincent Hospital in Fishers. John was born on January 12,1934 to George Edgar Braden Sr. and Agnes (Torr) Braden in Greencastle, Indiana.

John proudly served in the United States Army.

He grew up on a farm in Greencastle, Indiana. John's lifelong passion for farming is represented by the long tenure of working the land harvesting crops as well as raising livestock up until he was 80 years old.

John worked as a Skilled Machinist at International Harvester and then onto IBM in Greencastle for 40 years.

John looked forward to mushroom hunting season so that he could scope out his favorite secret locations. He was an avid sports fan cheering on his beloved IU as well a Lifelong diehard Chicago Cubs fan. John and Becky loved tailgating with friends at IU before Indiana ever dreamed of a National Championship. The tailgating was more fun than the game. Fortunately, he was able to witness IU's historic season last year and he enjoyed it immensely! John and Becky followed the Indiana Pacers, The Fever, and the Indianapolis Colts. He loved attending the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR races where he enjoyed spending time with his Brother George, his Nephew, Cort, and lifelong friend Jack Wheeler.

John always looked forward to summer where he could be in his "outdoor living room" on the deck with neighbors, family and friends. For many years he would be on the deck with his special friend Dale before Becky got home from work. They would always banter about IU Football and Basketball, the Chicago Cubs, the Colts, and the Pacers and; of course a little "politics" would get thrown in. He would talk Becky into having "cookouts" where he enjoyed having people around him sharing stories, food, and laughter. Becky and John shared 25 wonderful years together.

He is survived by his wife, Becky Braden; children, Jona, Jana (Bob), David, Mark, and Carol; grandchildren, Ryan, Brett, Craig, Erik, Sarra, Grant, Jennifer, Matthew, Amanda, Mia, and Samuel; and Sister Norma Cook. Along with 21 Great Grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, George, Howard and Jim, and Sister, Wilma.
