Joan Elnora Burress, a loving mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away at home with family on Sunday, February 8, 2026 in Fishers, Indiana. She was born on April 1, 1928 to William and Elsie (Bauer) Neukam in Dubois, Indiana.
Joan was very involved in her churches, Christ Lutheran Church of Noblesville, IN and Peace Lutheran Church in Okeechobee, FL, where she lived for 20 years. She also has attended Christ the Savior Lutheran Church in Fishers, IN with her daughter for the past several years. She was active in the Lutheran Women's League of Missionary and helped with any and all church meals and fundraising events. Joan enjoyed crocheting, gardening, canning, cooking, quilting and embroidery. Most of all, she loved her family. Joan was a humble, kind, and witty soul who loved to laugh and be silly and brought joy and laughter to her family and friends. She loved attending the sporting events and extracurricular activities of all her grand and great grandchildren. Joan will be deeply missed.
Joan is survived by her children, Diane Cosby, Gary Burress, Linda Sisson, and Sheree (Baxter) Bolling; 12 grandchildren, Chris Wade, Mike (Julie) Wade, Joel (Vivian) Cosby, Casey (Amie) Burress, Travis (Kim) Burress, Melissa (Steve) Clos, Crystal McKenna, Parker (Sara) Sisson, Melina (Chris Johnson) Ferguson, Tyler Ferguson, Donna (Chris) Litton, and Jacob Bolling; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Burress; brother, Donald Neukam; and her sons-in-law, Jeffrey Lee Sisson and Paul Brian Cosby.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, with services at 1:00 pm, on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at Christ Lutheran Church, 10055 East 186th Street, in Noblesville. Rev. Jacob Hercamp will officiate. A family burial will take place at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis on Monday, February 16, 2026. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Chris Wade, Mike Wade, Casey Burress, Travis Burress, Parker Sisson, and Steven Whitney.
