Listen to Obituary

Glen L. Shrock, 85, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025 after enjoying a wonderful life. He was born in Peru, Indiana on November 17, 1939 to Lloyd E. and Helen K. (Young) Shrock, the third of 4 boys. When he was about 6 months old his family moved from Kokomo, IN to Greentown, IN, where Glen grew up with his three brothers, Melvin, Merrill, and Francis "Pud", and a host of other young friends. He attended Greentown school until it was consolidated into Eastern Howard School Corporation, graduating in 1957. Glen ran cross country and played baseball his senior year. He was also active in drama activities, having a leading role in the senior play.

Glen and his brothers had paper routes, mowed yards (using mowers without motors), ran trap lines in Wildcat creek, and assisted their father at his garage, Shrock's Auto Service. His first steady job came at the age of 12, when he became a shoeshine boy at Hudson's Barber Shop. He was later employed at National Food Store in Kokomo.

After graduation from high school, Glen was employed at Brownie's City Service gas station in Greentown. He enlisted in the US Army in March of 1958, and after basic and advanced training, he was assigned to Special Forces, 529th MP Co, US Army Headquarters in Europe at Heidelberg, Germany, where he was a member of the Honor Guard. Shortly after his arrival in Germany, Glen was a part of a ceremony in London, England when the American Chapel in St. Paul's Cathedral was dedicated to the US servicemen killed in WWII. Queen Elizabeth and VP Nixon were also in attendance. He was also assigned security in Paris, France for President Eisenhower's global trip in December 1959. Upon returning to the states, Glen was assigned to Ft. Harrison in Indianapolis, IN and was assigned to AWOL apprehension for northern Indiana.

In 1960 after his return from his 2-year tour in Germany, Glen went on a blind date with Sharon "Sherry" Sheldmyer. After dating her and several other young ladies, Glen proposed to Sherry and she accepted. They were married on January 12, 1963 in Kokomo.

Upon discharge, Glen worked several jobs before applying and becoming an Indiana State Police trooper, fulfilling a dream from childhood. He was assigned to the Schererville Post in Lake County, where he worked for two years before transferring to Pendleton, IN, where he would patrol until his retirement in 1983. Glen was promoted to Squad Sergeant in 1972.

After their marriage in 1953, Sherry suggested that Glen learn to play golf and go deer hunting in the UP of Michigan so he could spend more time with his father, both of which she later partially learned to regret.

Glen and Sherry owned and operated Yesterday's Ice Cream and Pizza Parlor in Arcadia from 1990 to 1995. Upon his retirement from the State Police in 1983, Glen became Arcadia Town Marshal. In 1983 he was the only full-time officer in Arcadia, and when he retired in 2005, there were four full-time officers. Compiling his three years of Military police, Indiana State Police, Arcadia Town Marshal, Glen had 46 years in law enforcement. Combining his time in law enforcement with two of his brothers (Merrill: 28 years, Greentown Town Marshal, and Francis"Pud": Indiana State Police, 36 years), they had a total of 110 years in law enforcement.

Glen was appointed to the Arcadia Town Council in February of 2006 and was elected twice, serving 10 years in that capacity. He was known for his sense of humor and practical jokes. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, trips to Michigan and occasional trips to Florida. Glen and Sherry had visited every state in the union, including Alaska and Hawaii.

Glen was a member of the Noblesville Elks, Noblesville Moose, Indiana State Police Alliance, Indiana State Police Pioneers, Indiana State Seniors Golf Association, Cicero Post American Legion and a 61-year member of Noblesville Men's Golf Club. He and Sherry were both huge Hamilton Heights athletic fans, attending hundreds of sporting events since their move to Arcadia in 1964.

Glen is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sherry Shrock; son, Glen Edward "Ed" Shrock of Cicero, IN; daughter, Lori Shrock of Noblesville; grandchildren, Jake Lorton of Madison, WI, Lucy Lorton of Westfield, and Elizabeth Shrock (fiancé, Dalton Hurt); great-grandson, Cecil Glenn Hurt; and his brother, Merrill Shrock.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Melvin Shrock and Pud Shrock; and an infant son, stillborn in April of 1968.
