Donald Eugene Thiem

Donald Eugene Thiem, 91, of Carmel, IN, passed away on October 21, 2014. He was born on April 10, 1923 to Eugene and Ruby (Streb) Thiem in Chicago, Illinois.
Donald was a veteran of WWII, where he served as an infantryman in the European theatre. After the war, Don worked as a proofreader/editor for RR Donnelly and Sons Printers, in Chicago. He loved to travel, and had traveled throughout the world visiting friends and revisiting many of the places he served during the war. Don also stayed engaged and young by taking regular adult education classes at his Alma Mater, the University of Chicago. Don lived at the Flamingo apartments overlooking Lake Michigan for almost 50 years. He loved the Flamingo's friendly staff and his young University of Chicago student neighbors, and they loved him.
Don's life can be summed up in the words of everyone who knew him, both family and friends, he was a good guy! There could be no higher praise.
He is survived by brother, Ray Thiem; nephew, Gene Thiem; nieces, Jennie Greifer and Liz Thiem.
A family memorial service will be held over the Thanksgiving holiday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Art Institute of Chicago.
