Donald Wayne Newby II

Donald Wayne Newby II, 66, of Noblesville passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023. He was born on September 12, 1957, in Lebanon, Indiana to Donald Wayne Newby and Eva Marie Newby (née Wood) and was raised in Brownsburg. He graduated from Brownsburg High School, class of 1975, and joined the United States Air Force in February 1976. He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Rebecca Jo Overton on June 19, 1976. They served in the Air Force together, stationed at Ramstein AFB in Germany, and were happily married for 30 years. During his time in the Air Force, Don was promoted to Staff Sergeant while serving in the 86th Airlift Wing as a fuels specialist and served his country alongside his wife for almost 8 years. He was awarded an Air Force Commendation Medal, an Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, an Air Force Overseas Long Tour Service Ribbon, an Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon, Air Force Training Ribbon, and an Air Force Good Conduct Medal with one oak leaf cluster.  

Don is survived by his three children, Elizabeth Newby, Daniel Newby (Sarah) and David Newby (Jessica), his four grandchildren, Everly, Maisie, Claire and Caleb, his sisters Linda Derrow (Dan), Joan McAvoy (Mark), Diane Akers, brothers Phil Sherry-Newby (Marcia), Howard Akers (Sharon), sister-in-law Carrie Akers and nephew Wade.  

He is preceded in death by parents Donald Newby and Eva Newby, stepmother Luella Newby, wife Rebecca Newby, brothers Harlan Akers and Michael Simmons and in-laws Leonard and Jean Overton.  

Don was a quiet but kind and loving man who had an affection for collecting cigars, golfing and watching the Indianapolis Colts. Among some of his favorite memories were a trip with daughter, Liz, to see the Grand Canyon and visit and play golf at Pebble Beach Golf Links in California and a trip to Newport, Rhode Island with David to celebrate Daniel’s graduation from Navy Officer Candidate School. He was most proud of his children and grandchildren. 

Private family burial will be at Cicero Cemetery in Cicero.
