Deborah Lynn Sutton

Listen to Obituary

Deborah Lynn (Nuce) Sutton was born on October 17, 1956, in Anderson, Indiana. One of six children born to Raymond and Nancy (Melcher) Nuce, Deborah grew up surrounded by the joy, sounds, and deep bonds of a big family. She cherished time spent at the lake-fishing, camping, playing cards, and proudly beating everyone at Aggravation.

Deborah shared more than 20 years of marriage with her husband, Steve. Their partnership was built on loyalty, humor, and an unconditional love for one another. Steve stood faithfully by her side, lovingly and steadfastly, until the very end.

Deborah was a devoted mother to her two girls, always working hard to provide for them and cheering them on through every season of life.

She dedicated more than 30 years of her career to the State of Indiana, where she made a lasting impact. As Program Director at the Indiana Women’s Prison, Deborah poured her heart into developing programs that supported rehabilitation and strengthened families. Her work helped women build parenting skills, focus on mental health, and maintain meaningful connections with their children-something she believed every mother deserved.

Outside of work, Deborah embraced life’s simple joys. She loved traveling with her daughters, especially visiting her youngest in her favorite place-Maui. She was an enthusiastic TV watcher, a dedicated grocery shopper, and someone whose happiest moments were spent with family. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and being “Mamma” was one of her greatest joys.

Deborah is survived by her husband, Steve Sutton; daughters, Heather (Gordon Merritt) Wilson and Amber (Cassandra) Hanger; step-son, Michael (Whitney) Sutton; grandchildren, Brayden Wilson, Noa Hanger, Ori Ray Sutton, and Livia Sutton; and siblings, Mike (Nancy) Nuce, Randy (Cindy) Nuce, Cindy Wilson, Vicki (Chip) Harmeson, and John (Bobbie) Nuce.

In honor of Deborah’s wishes, no services will be held.
