Listen to Obituary

David Michael Smith, 58, of Fishers, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2026. He was born on February 24, 1968 to the late James and Michele (Sargent) Smith in Parma, Ohio.

David was a man who loved people deeply. He was a good listener who genuinely cared about what others had to say and never hesitated to lend an ear. He had a gift for giving advice and helping people see things differently. He often reminded those around him to stay present rather than get caught up worrying about the past or the future. At his best, he was incredibly kind and giving, with a heart that made room for just about everyone. He adored his children and grandchildren, and his love for his family was a huge part of who he was.

David was passionate about helping others, both personally and professionally. He worked as a liaison for Community Health Network, a job he truly loved and took great pride in. Having spent 27 years in AA recovery, he became a source of support and encouragement for countless people finding their own way through sobriety. Helping people was never just something David did; it was something he genuinely believed in. His favorite word was BELIEVE for a reason. He cared deeply about people and human rights, and he wasn't afraid to stand up for what he believed was right.

David loved traveling, exploring hiking trails and parks, and spending time camping outdoors. He also had a great sense of humor and was a natural jokester, often bringing his own unique brand of humor into a room. He had a softer side, too, and was known to cry during movies. The Color Purple and even Hannah Montana were among the movies that could bring him to tears. He had kind eyes and a willingness to help anyone who needed it.

He is survived by his daughter, Riley (Ryan) Arnett; son, Noah Smith; partner, Tracy Pettigrew; step-daughter, Carrie Pettigrew; grandchildren, Kennedy Shaffer-Arnett and Jude Arnett; brothers, Brian Smith and Christopher Smith; nieces & nephews, Brittany Hipkiss, Bryce Smith, Mady Smith, and Caden Smith; and his step-mother, Lisa Smith.

A celebration of David's life will be held at 4:00pm on Saturday, November 21, 2026 at The Carvel Club, 4627 Carvel Ave #2022, Indianapolis, IN 46205.
