David Alan Furst

November 17, 1960-August 4, 2024

David Alan Furst was a kind and quiet soul who enjoyed spending hours watching film classics while tinkering with hobby models. After many years of struggling with thyroid and COPD complications, David succumbed to complications of a thyroid storm with his family by his side at Eskenazi Health Hospital ICU on Sunday, August 4th, 2024. The family is thankful for the genuine care and sensitivity the MICU-2 team showed during this difficult time.

He is survived by his two sons, Troy (Nicole) and Nicolas (Clara) Furst. He is survived by 5 grandchildren: Troy Jr., Alex, Aidan, Ellie, and Callie as well as 1 great-grandchild: PJ. He is survived by his sister Kathy Furst-Bennett (Dennis) and three nieces including Catherine Day of Cumming, GA, Jaimi Goss of Auburn, GA, and Amber Russo of Athens, GA. He is survived by 6 great nieces and nephews and 8 great great nieces and nephews on the Furst-Bennett side. He is survived by his Aunt Norma Biby.

He was preceded in death by both parents Tom and Judy Furst; maternal grandparents, Richard and Hazel Wiles; and paternal grandparents, James and Elizabeth Furst.

David joined the United States Navy following his graduation from Noblesville Sr. High School. He graduated the Naval Academy in Pensacola, FL and served in Charleston, NC before spending two years over in Japan. His sons remember a model battleship resting on the mantel quietly marking David’s pride in serving his country.

Despite having rocky younger years, Dave accepted Jesus into his heart and led a sober life in his older years. He was an avid fisherman and put all those years being a Boy Scout to use while trying to find the perfect fishing hole. He spent endless amounts of hours watching NASCAR and organizing his extensive NASCAR collection. Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Sr. were his favorite NASCAR drivers.

Dave’s wishes were simple and included transitioning with little fuss. The family will be making arrangements to send his remains back to Georgia to be closer to other loved ones.
