Darren Michael Mast, 58, of Fishers, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. He was born on March 23, 1967, in Logansport, Indiana, to Joseph and Tonia (Logan) Mast. His mother, Tonia, precedes him in death.
He attended Ball State University, where he was a proud member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He finished his undergraduate work and graduate work at Indiana University, obtaining a Master’s degree in Planning. A life-long learner, Darren constantly challenged himself to grow intellectually, always seeking new knowledge.
For more than 20 years, Darren worked as a Code Enforcement Inspector for the City of Carmel, where he was known to be a great partner and servant to his team and city. Outside of his professional life, Darren was a man of wide-ranging interests. He was quick-witted, loved to debate nearly any topic, and had a deep passion for the arts, politics, and sports. He enjoyed cheering (and sometimes jeering) as a diehard fan of Notre Dame, the New York Yankees, and the Chicago Bears. These passions were something he shared with Declan and Kiera, enjoying annual trips together to watch their teams play.
An avid reader, writer, and music lover, Darren was a talented artist and curiously creative. He had a large collection of journals where he captured his workout plans, favorite quotes, recipes, drawings, and ideas - all preserved in his beautiful handwriting. He also enjoyed creating diverse music playlists, which showcased his ever-evolving tastes.
Darren cherished the quiet moments in life: family game nights, puzzles, gardening, and watching his favorite television shows and movies. His love for nature was evident in his care for the trees and flowers that surrounded his home. Darren was a sentimental man at heart, who truly appreciated the small moments in life with those he loved the most. He enjoyed spending time with friends, his weekly traditions, and lovingly spoiled his dogs. Above all, his children were his pride and joy - he was a dedicated, loving father who prioritized being active and present within their lives.
Darren is survived by his son, Declan Mast; daughter, Kiera Mast; father, Joseph “Mike” Mast; sister, Marnie (Jay) Bennington; nephews, Sam and Noah Bennington; former wife, Erica (Rich) Curtiss; and his beloved dog, Finn.
A service to honor Darren's life will be held at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary, 12010 Allisonville Road in Fishers. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM and continue until the time of the service. A private burial will take place at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you plant a tree in Darren’s honor, reflecting his love for nature and the quiet beauty it brings.
