Charles “Charlie” Caleb McMillan Jr., 62, Noblesville, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning of Monday, June 30, 2025, following a seven-year battle with prostate cancer.
He was born April 5, 1963, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville, the son of Charles C. McMillan Sr. and Dorothy O. (Malone) McMillan of Noblesville.
Charlie was a 1981 Noblesville High School graduate. He and wife, newspaper journalist Betsy Reason McMillan, have one daughter, Addison “Addie” McMillan, a 2024 NHS grad.
After working at Hare Chevrolet, Charlie spent 35 years as a master automotive technician at what was first Shell Automotive and Gas and later known as McMillan’s Auto Care & Towing, both owned and operated by his parents in downtown Noblesville until its closing in 2021. He was former chairman of the Hamilton County Board of Zoning Appeals, South District.
Charlie volunteered throughout his daughter’s school years and especially with Noble Roadies, helping with sound and building sets for NHS Singers show choir. He performed with the NHS Alumni Band, Encore, and was a former member of the NHS Alumni Board.
Charlie was a former facility manager, board member and past president of The Belfry Theatre and made his stage debut in “1776: The Musical.” He was an advisory member for Legacy Keepers Music’s String-Time on the Square.
He earned second place in the 2003 Four Wheeler magazine’s “Top Truck Challenge,” one of America’s most extreme off-road competitions, as co-driver/builder. He was a lifelong motorcycle rider, a tow-truck operator and a welder/fabricator.
Charlie was a member of Raydio Flyers show band and was a deejay and auctioneer for local fundraisers. He was a member of Sons of The American Legion, Noblesville Moose Lodge and past board member of Noblesville Eagles Lodge.
Charlie loved competing and winning awards with his family in the Hamilton County 4-H Fair’s Homemade Ice Cream Making Contest for more than 30 years.
He loved Rocky, his Golden Retriever, and music, cooking, camping, kayaking, keeping up with current events, fixing cars, attending local events and spending time with his family.
Survivors include: parents, Charles “Chuck” and Dorothy “Dotty” McMillan; daughter, Addison “Addie” McMillan; wife, Betsy Reason McMillan; sister, Debra “Debbie” L. (Floyd) Mason; niece, Chelsea Mason; nephew, Zachary “Zach” Mason; great niece, Lexianne Duvall; aunts and uncles, Cynthia (Dan) Pfleging and Zilpha (Thomas) McFall, all of Noblesville; and Larry McMillan (Paula Fischer), Lexington, Ky., and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by sister, Kimberly McMillan; aunts and uncles, Edith (Jerry) Malone Parsons, Nancy Malone Taylor, William E. Malone, Bettye (Wayne) McMillan Stamey, Ralph (Anna) McMillan, Bill (Mary Lou) McMillan, Jack (Lucine) McMillan, Diane (Bob) McMillan Johnson, Ronnie McMillan, and Bob (Betty) McMillan; grandparents, Creed and Birdie Malone and Ralph and Carrie McMillan.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Crownland Cemetery in Noblesville with a Celebration of Life from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Osprey Pointe Pavilion at Morse Beach Park in Noblesville.
