Catherine Anne Sadler

Catherine (Cat) Anne Sadler was born in Nantwich, Cheshire, England on March 7, 1977. Catherine and her family moved from England to the United States when she was 4 years-old. During her childhood, her family relocated often for her father’s employment, she graduated from Terre Haute South Vigo High School where she participated in marching band, student council and mock trial.

Cat attended George Washington University in Washington DC; she earned a B.A in Political Science and Criminal Justice from the Columbian School of Arts and Sciences. While on campus, she was initiated into Alpha Delta Pi national sorority, served as an undergraduate senator and competed in the GWU Mock Trial Team. She was elected Miss GW during Homecoming of 1999.

Professionally Cat worked as a case manager for Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP for 13 years in both their Washington DC and Atlanta offices. She was known at the firm for her tenacity, work ethic and tireless dedication to the firm and it’s clients.

Philanthropy and community service were paramount throughout Cat’s life. In her teens she provided care in the nursery of a homeless shelter, with the goal of allowing parents time to get back on their feet. In her 20s she volunteered for a domestic violence hotline, helping women flee abusive situations. In her 30s she campaigned and fundraised for Barack Obama’s race for the presidency. Most recently, during her battle with cancer, she volunteered at her nephew’s school reading to elementary students. After successfully navigating her own journey claiming social security benefits and long-term disability, she took her knowledge and helped more than 100 patients at Community North Cancer Center navigate their paperwork and claim their benefits. If there was anything she was truly good at, it was fighting for what was right.

She was a world traveler, most recently traveling to spend time with friends in New York City and California. She enjoyed fashion and was admired for her unique style.

Cat passed away in the early morning of July 24, 2024 after a long battle with cancer. She is survived by her mother, Linda Sadler; father, Ian Sadler; sister Aimee Ash and her husband Jeremy Ash; brother Jonathan Sadler and his wife Maggie Sadler; beloved nieces Addison, Lillian and Maeve; and her nephews Mason and Harry. Also lovingly called her “American Grandma”, Joyce Tiley. Cat was preceded in death by her grandparents, Madge and John Sadler and Agnes and J.R. Harding.

Our hearts are shattered, but from diagnosis to death---she fought the good fight, 894 days. We are honoring Cat’s wishes and holding a private, family-only celebration of life.
