It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carolyn Kay (DeYoung) Munyon, 74, of Noblesville, Indiana. She passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Carolyn was born on July 19, 1951, in Mahaska County, Iowa to Stanley and Ruby DeYoung. She was a member of Union Mills Christian Church. Carolyn graduated from North Mahaska High School in 1969 then began her career with General Telephone in Grinnell, Iowa where she developed many lifelong friendships. She was briefly married and blessed with her daughter, Sarah. In the late 1980’s they relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana with GTE which later became Verizon. After 34 years of service, Carolyn embraced early retirement, choosing to devote her time to the things she loved most: traveling, flower gardening, bird watching, sewing, crocheting, reading, do-it-yourself projects, and making memories with family. She was always ready for a road trip or spontaneous adventure and enjoyed quite a few amazing trips in the United States-from Hawaii to Florida to New York-as well as to national parks, historic sites, and a few countries in Europe. A favorite trip was to the Netherlands and Belgium with her mother Ruby, sister Ruth, and brother in law Keith where they enjoyed learning about our family heritage and experiencing Dutch culture first hand.
In 2003, Carolyn moved to Richmond, Indiana where she enjoyed a part-time “fun job” at Jo-Ann Fabrics. She loved helping customers with craft and sewing projects while working for Jo-Anns until retiring once more and relocating to Noblesville, Indiana to be closer to her daughter.
Carolyn remained deeply connected to her Iowa roots and was proud of her family history there. On every trip back, she joyfully sang the song “We’re from Iowa” while crossing the Mississippi River. She often enjoyed a walk down the gravel road where she grew up, listening to bluebirds singing and spotting wild flowers growing along the roadside.
She will be remembered and forever missed for her kindness, generosity, fun-loving sense of humor, chocolate chip cookies, late night conversations/baking sessions, creativity, inventive spirit - always finding a clever solution to life’s little challenges. Above all, she will be cherished for her childlike delight in simple things and her ability to make every moment special. May her light forever shine through Sarah, Julia, and those she held so close to her heart.
She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Minnick (Josh) of Noblesville, Indiana; her beloved granddaughter, Julia, whom she adored and shared an amazing few years with; step-granddaughter, Gabby; her sister, Ruth Middleton (Keith); brothers, Dan DeYoung (Joy) and David DeYoung (Connie); and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby DeYoung and Stanley DeYoung.
There will be a visitation on January 25, 2026 at 2pm at Randall and Roberts Funeral Home, 1150 Logan Street, Noblesville, Indiana 46060, followed by a memorial service at 3pm. Burial will be at Crownland Cemetery in Noblesville the following day.
