Benjamin Ross Johnson, age 38, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born on January 1, 1988, in Kyoto, Japan.
Benjamin loved his family, friends, mechanics, learning, and nature. He was happiest when tinkering with a car or bike, learning everything there is to know about a topic of interest, hiking in some beautiful spot (or fighting to preserve it), and he found beauty in Nature large and small.
Ben loved cycling. He followed the Tour de France and other international cycling events, rode in southern Indiana’s “Hilly Hundred” (on a fixed gear), competed at the Major Taylor Velodrome, in DINO mountain biking series, and in road races. Before he had a driver's license Ben would take 50+-mile rides into the countryside. He started learning bicycle mechanics and volunteered his time and skills at the Bicycle Action Project, an Indianapolis-based organization offering programs and services related to bicycles and youth engagement. Eventually Ben managed cycling shops in Austin and Houston Texas among other mechanical and technical positions.
Benjamin is survived by his mother, Marcia Larkin Patterson; father, Jeffrey Johnson; sister, Emma Johnson; grandmother, Carol Johnson; and a number of loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm, with a memorial service at 5:00 pm, on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary, 12010 Allisonville Road, Fishers, Indiana.
In honor of Ben’s passion for cycling, his belief that it should be accessible to all, and his commitment to making that a reality for the communities he lived in, memorial contributions may be made to Freewheelin' Community Bikes https://www.freewheelinbikes.org/
