Barbara Ann Beagle Summers
November 16, 1952 – June 19, 2026

Barbara Ann Beagle Summers, 73, of Indianapolis, passed away unexpectedly on June 19, 2026.

Barb lived a beautiful, vibrant life filled with family, friendship, purpose, laughter, and an extraordinary love for the people around her. She had a warmth and energy that drew people to her, and throughout her life, she made lasting connections everywhere she went. To know Barb was to know her generous spirit, her strength, her intelligence, and her genuine interest in others.

A lifelong Hoosier, Barb was born in Indianapolis on November 16, 1952, the eldest of four children born to Emma Lee Beagle and Jerome Henry Beagle. As the oldest of the Beagle siblings, she shared a lifelong bond with her sisters, Carolyn Davee (William) and Mary Tate (Timothy), and her brother, James Beagle (Marie). Family was an important thread throughout her life, and the relationships she shared with her siblings remained a meaningful part of who she was.

Barb devoted much of her life to healthcare and nursing, a career that reflected both her natural leadership and her deep commitment to caring for others. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Indiana University in 1974 and her Master of Science in Nursing from Indiana University in 1981. She later earned her Master of Business Administration from the University of Indianapolis in 1989, also serving as the Valedictorian.

She began her career as a nurse and went on to become a highly respected healthcare leader in the Indianapolis community. Her career included leadership roles at Methodist Hospital and Community Hospital North, where she ultimately served as Hospital President for 20+ years. She was recognized for her leadership in patient safety and helped guide Community North through a significant period of growth and expansion. Throughout her career, Barb remained deeply committed to the people behind the work—patients, families, nurses, physicians, staff, and the community she served. She believed healthcare should always be rooted in compassion, safety, and service.

As proud as Barb was of her career, her greatest joy was her family. She was the loving wife of the late Charles Michael “Mike” Summers, with whom she shared 44 years of marriage before his passing in 2023. Together, they built a life centered around family, love, laughter, and countless memories.

Barb was a devoted mother to her three children, Courtney Leigh Summers (Ryan Jacobs), Christopher Michael Summers (Stephanie), and step-daughter Kimberly Sue Bell. as well as a loving grandmother to Arica Lyn Mann, Alexander Jacob Bell, and Austin Thomas Bell. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Charles David Mann.

Beyond the titles and accomplishments, Barb will be remembered most simply for her bright spirit — she was loving, lively, smart, strong, funny, generous, witty, and completely herself. She loved deeply, laughed often, and brought an unmistakable energy into the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.

Her impact reached far beyond her family and her career. Through decades spent in the Indianapolis community, Barb touched the lives of countless people—as a leader, colleague, mentor, friend, mother, grandmother, and neighbor. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the love, lessons, stories, and memories she leaves behind will continue to live on in all who knew her.
