Archie Franklin Kerr, 86, died peacefully on June 16, 2025, at Prairie Lakes Health Campus in Noblesville, Indiana. He was born on November 13, 1938 to Franklin and Alice Kerr in Indianapolis, Indiana.
In 1962 Archie married the love of his life, Pamela K. Underwood. They met while working at Western Electric in Indianapolis and were married for 56 years. They raised two sons in Noblesville. Archie also lived in Lee’s Summit , Missouri, Columbus, Ohio, and Labelle, Florida.
Archie graduated from Carmel High School. He went on to study electronics at Valparaiso Tech along with other classes in the electrical field at Butler University, Purdue University and Arsenal Tech. While still in high school, he joined the army reserves and served in the active military after graduating from Valparaiso Tech. He was given a medical discharge (asthma) after six months of service.
Archie started working at Western Electric in Indianapolis in 1959. He stayed with the company as it became AT&T and retired as a senior engineer in 1989. During his career with AT&T he also worked in their plants in Kansas City, Missouri, and Columbus, Ohio. Archie received four patents from his work at AT&T. After retiring from AT&T Archie worked for Bruderer. This work had him traveling all over the world. Pam was able to join him in Europe and Asia. The job involved much more time away from home than either of them was comfortable with so he retired full time after just a few years.
Archie’s other interests included travel, being a private pilot, and tinkering with anything mechanical or electrical. He and Pam enjoyed traveling all over the world including a flight on the Concord supersonic jet. Travel was a great way for them to spend special times with dear friends. Archie logged many hours piloting his Cessna airplane and enjoyed living out retirement at the Noblesville airport. Friends were always bringing him broken items in need of repair. When it came to fixing things he always said he could fix anything except for a broken heart.
He is survived by his two sons, Tom (wife Pam) and Dave (wife Beth); three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Russell and Madeline; two step-grandchildren, Thomas (wife Carolyne), Katherine (husband Joseph); and four great-grandchildren. Archie was preceded in death by his wife, Pam, and his brother, George.
