Alfred Harrison Holter, 86, of Noblesville, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Harbour Manor Care Center in Noblesville. He was born on March 2, 1928 to Alfred and Pauline (Dodson) Holter in Berwick, PA.
"Gramps" Al was a veteran of the US Army, and retired as an employee of Corning Glass. He was a lover of many sports, especially the Indianapolis Colts. He loved playing card games and dominoes with his family and friends. He had a great sense of humor.
Al moved to Corning around 1949, after a medical discharge from the U.S. Army. He worked as a bellhop in the Baron Steuben Hotel, where he met his first wife, Millie, who was a cook there. Shortly after they were married he was hired at the Corning Glass Works. They enjoyed many visits in Corning from his mom, George, and many brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews who lived nearby. Milly died in 1984. Alfred loved the Lord Jesus and served on the Board at Corning Nazarene Church; and also helped with Sunday School and the outreach programs. Al retired in 1986 so he could travel to California and Nebraska to visit his sisters. He was an active member of the Painted Post Odd Fellows for many years, until he left town with his new wife, Opal to live in Indiana. He was welcomed into a wonderful family who loved and cared for him for the rest of his life.
He leaves on this earth his daughter, Dr. & Rev. (Rich) Carol Osborn Schenck; two sons, Raymond (Donna) Osborn and Ron (Debbie) Osborn; brothers Kerth Rodney (Georgia) Holter and Robert (Hoan) Holter; sisters, Kathleen Marie Pastorella and Sadie Pearl Spath; grandchildren, Kevin, Terry , Allen, Jason & Tim (Janessa) Osborn, Robin (Doug) Osborn Smith, Mary (Jacque) Osborn Applegate, Heather (Osborn) Temple, Kim (Daryl) Osborn Whaley, Richie Schenck, Richelle (Ted) Schenck Harper, Rachel Cunningham and Chasiti (Ron) Golden, Scott & Steve Denny, Amanda, Mandy, and John Dodd; great-grandchildren, Dustin and Parker Osborn, Jackie,Marissa & Bryant Applegate, Dakota, Dylan & Kelsey Temple, Cheyenne Osborn, Olivia Osborn and Charlotte Rose Harper; 10 nieces; and 14 nephews. Gramps also added into his large family circle, faithful caregivers, Jordan Byrum and Shanna Rich.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Holter; second wife, Opal Osborn Holter; sons, Harold Victor Osborn and Floyd Arnold Osborn; sisters, Patricia Holter and Beverly Elaine Holter; brothers, Kenneth Maxwell Holter and Ian Donald Holter.
Services will be held at 5:00 pm on Sunday, October 19, 2014, at Lakeview Wesleyan Church, 396 Park Street in Noblesville, with visitation beginning at 3:00 pm immediately prior to the service at the church. Dr. Rich and Rev. Carol Schenck will officiate. Burial will be at Jasper Cemetery in New York.
