Adoracion “Dory” Z. Yumang, 89, of Fishers, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2026 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born on October 24, 1936 to Narciso Zapanta and Salome Paz Zapanta in Taytay, Rizal, Philippines. She brought the elegance, creativity and love of her homeland to everything she did throughout her long and beautiful life. Dory moved to Canada at the age of 30, where she met the love of her life, Hilario “Larry” Yumang. They married in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and had a daughter, Geraldine “Gigi” Yumang. Dory and Larry then moved to Indianapolis to follow the American dream and raise their daughter.
Dory graduated Rizal High School, Philippine Normal College and earned her Masters of Education from Butler University. She was a devoted school teacher in the Philippines, Canada and the United States and retired from IPS after teaching there for more than 30 years. Dory was also a member of St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing and dancing and traveling with Larry. After retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at the Fishers Library teaching seniors to read and loved spending time with her husband and friends for movie night and dinner.
Above all, Dory will be remembered for her commitment and love for her family. Her hard work and determination set the tone for her family and provided the foundation for a beautiful life for those that loved her dearly.
She is survived by her husband, Hilario Yumang; daughter, Gigi (Jon) Griffin; grandchildren, Ali and Jake Griffin; and siblings, Anicia Zapanta, Lilia Mariano, Nilda (Ernesto) Leonardo, and Dan (Zeny) Zapanta.
